The multicenter clinical trial, named Bridge to HOPE by sponsoring company Bridge to Life Ltd., has just been published online in JAMA Surgery. The Bridge to HOPE clinical trial was the pivotal trial reviewed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), leading to the recent de novo clearance of the VitaSmart™ HOPE Perfusion System.

The study, titled “Portal-Venous Hypothermic Oxygenated Perfusion for Liver Transplantation: The Bridge to HOPE Trial,” is the first multicenter, randomized trial conducted in the United States to evaluate the clinical impact of end-ischemic HOPE through the portal vein alone in liver transplantation using high-risk extended criteria donors, including both Donation after Brain Death (DBD) and Donation after Circulatory Death (DCD) grafts. The study enrolled 219 recipients across 15 U.S. transplant centers and was performed using the investigational VitaSmart™ HOPE System. The study focused on higher-risk donor organs, where advanced preservation techniques can meaningfully increase utilization and improve post-transplant outcomes.

The protocol was designed with a blinded central assessment of complications and achieved early closure due to statistically superior results for the VitaSmart arm.

The VitaSmart™ HOPE System was recently launched in the US for use with donor livers following static cold storage and prior to transplantation. The FDA de novo clearance established a new regulatory classification for hypothermic oxygenated perfusion in liver transplantation in the United States.

Arezzo, adolescente perseguitato tra social e violenza: cinque giovani denunciati

AREZZO – Bullismo e cyberbullismo ad Arezzo, si chiudono con cinque giovani denunciati le indagini coordinate dalla Procura per i minorenni di Firenze e condotte dalla squadra mobile della questura aretina.

Secondo quanto ricostruito dagli investigatori, la vittima sarebbe stata presa di mira per mesi da un gruppo di coetanei attraverso una lunga serie di insulti, minacce e umiliazioni avvenute sia nella vita quotidiana che sui social network.

L’indagine era partita dopo la denuncia presentata dalla madre del ragazzo, preoccupata per il crescente stato di disagio del figlio, diventato bersaglio di una continua campagna denigratoria.

Gli indagati, tutti minorenni tra i 15 e i 17 anni, avrebbero diffuso contenuti offensivi e accuse false tramite Instagram e gruppi WhatsApp, esponendo il ragazzo a prese in giro, offese e minacce anche da parte di altri utenti.

Per gli investigatori non si sarebbe trattato di episodi isolati, ma di una vera e propria azione persecutoria andata avanti nel tempo e culminata con un’aggressione fisica nel centro storico di Arezzo.

Il giovane sarebbe stato infatti accerchiato dal gruppo e colpito con calci e pugni. La scena sarebbe stata ripresa con un cellulare e poi pubblicata online, aumentando ulteriormente l’umiliazione e la pressione psicologica sulla vittima.

Determinante per le indagini si è rivelata la piattaforma YouPol della Polizia di Stato. La madre del ragazzo era riuscita a recuperare il filmato dell’aggressione e a inviarlo rapidamente agli investigatori prima che venisse cancellato dal web.

Le testimonianze raccolte tra amici e conoscenti della vittima avrebbero poi confermato il clima di accanimento e le continue vessazioni subite dal minore.

Nel corso delle indagini sono state eseguite anche perquisizioni nelle abitazioni dei giovani coinvolti, con il sequestro di telefoni e dispositivi informatici utilizzati per approfondire ulteriormente la vicenda.

Nei confronti dei cinque ragazzi sono stati notificati gli avvisi di conclusione delle indagini preliminari per il reato di atti persecutori.

Nel pomeriggio di oggi (27 maggio) si è tenuto un importante vertice in Prefettura, convocato d’urgenza per fare il punto sui recenti e preoccupanti episodi che hanno visto alcuni studenti utilizzare sostanze urticanti all’interno dei plessi scolastici del territorio, provocando malori e costringendo all’evacuazione delle aule.

L’incontro di oggi rappresenta la prosecuzione ideale del tavolo già avviato lo scorso 26 febbraio, nato in attuazione della direttiva congiunta tra il ministero dell’istruzione e del Merito e il ministero dell’interno per blindare la sicurezza negli istituti. Il prefetto ha poi insistito sulla necessità di promuovere tra gli studenti una cultura della cittadinanza attiva e della responsabilità. I ragazzi saranno incoraggiati a rompere il muro dell’omertà e a farsi parte attiva all’interno della comunità scolastica, segnalando tempestivamente ai professori o ai dirigenti la presenza di bombolette sospette o comportamenti pericolosi prima che questi possano sfociare in emergenze.

Nel corso del tavolo interistituzionale è stato infine chiesto uno sforzo straordinario a tutto il personale della scuola. Docenti e personale Ata saranno formati per intercettare precocemente i ‘segnali di rischio’ e gli indicatori di disagio o devianza tra gli alunni. Nei casi più complessi, le scuole lavoreranno a stretto contatto con i servizi sociali dei Comuni per garantire una presa in carico integrata che coinvolga direttamente le famiglie e il territorio. Il monitoraggio della Ppefettura resterà altissimo e il gruppo di lavoro tornerà a riunirsi periodicamente per verificare l’efficacia delle misure adottate a tutela della sicurezza degli studenti aretini.
